Bold and dramatic, this design shows a bouquet of crimson daisies in full bloom. Two large flowers open wide with fine, ray-like petals that fade from bright coral red to deep garnet and nearly black at the center, each one sprinkled with golden topaz dots around a glowing heart. A half-open bloom and three round buds on leafy stems complete the arrangement.
The pattern uses just 8 DMC colors on a 147 × 200 stitch grid, with full cross stitches only and no blended threads. Four reds and black create the striking petal shading, two greens form the stems and leaves, and a single golden yellow lights up the flower centers. Below you’ll find the pattern facts, materials list, color key and all four free downloads: the color chart, the black & white chart, the one-page chart and the Pattern Keeper file.

Tips for This Pattern
Before you start stitching
- DMC 3347 (Yellow Green, Medium) is the largest color at 3,779 stitches, and DMC 310 (Black) follows with 3,033. Buy two to three skeins of each so every leaf and flower center matches.
- The petals mix four close deep reds (817, 816, 777 and 814). Sort them onto labeled bobbins and stitch under bright daylight, since these shades are hard to tell apart at night.
- Black is used for the deepest shading in the flower centers, not as an outline. Stitch the dark center of each daisy first, then work outward through the reds.
- DMC 728 (Topaz) has only 258 stitches, scattered as single golden dots. Count each one carefully; they are what make the centers sparkle.
- Black and the dark garnets can shadow through light fabric, so avoid long carries on the back between the flowers.
- If you prefer a softer look, an antique white or cream Aida warms up the reds without losing contrast.

What brand of thread does this pattern use?
This pattern is charted for DMC brand thread. All 8 colors are listed in the color key with their DMC numbers and names.
Does this pattern use any blended colors?
No. Every stitch uses a single DMC color with 2 strands, so there’s no need to combine two shades in the needle.
What fabric size should I use?
Finished size depends on the Aida count you choose. Add at least 3″ (7–8 cm) of margin on every side for framing:
| Aida Count | Finished Size |
|---|---|
| 14 ct | 10.5″ × 14.3″ / 26.7 × 36.3 cm |
| 16 ct | 9.2″ × 12.5″ / 23.3 × 31.8 cm |
| 18 ct | 8.2″ × 11.1″ / 20.7 × 28.2 cm |
| 20 ct | 7.4″ × 10.0″ / 18.7 × 25.4 cm |
| 22 ct | 6.7″ × 9.1″ / 16.9 × 23.1 cm |
| 25 ct | 5.9″ × 8.0″ / 14.9 × 20.3 cm |
| 28 ct | 5.3″ × 7.1″ / 13.4 × 18.1 cm |
Is this a full coverage design?
No. The background is left as bare fabric, so the red flowers stand out boldly against it. The design uses about 15,700 stitches.
How long does this pattern take to complete?
Plan on roughly 45–70 hours. The leaves and stems move quickly, while the petals take longer because the four reds and black change often to create the shading.
What’s the difference between the four downloads?
The Color Chart shows colored symbols across several pages, and the Black & White Chart is the printer-friendly symbol-only version. The One Page Pattern fits the whole design on a single sheet for a quick overview. The Pattern Keeper file is made for the Pattern Keeper app, so you can mark off stitches digitally on a tablet or phone.
Conclusion
These crimson daisies make a bold, eye-catching wall piece and a lovely gift for anyone who loves rich, warm colors. With only 8 DMC colors, whole stitches and no blends, the chart stays simple while the shading gives the finished flowers real depth.
Pick the chart version that suits you best, gather your reds and greens, and enjoy watching each daisy open stitch by stitch. We’d love to see your progress if you share it!
